Lawrence Elder

Lawrence Elder began his career in criminal justice. Lawrence served as a Muscogee County Deputy Sheriff and a State of Georgia Adult Probation Officer the first 10 years of his career. He worked in the private sector as a Store Manager for the Kroger Company for 10 years. Lawrence went through what he calls his “period of confusion,” which was an episode of chronic homelessness and cocaine addiction for 9 years. The last 27 years he has made a good faith effort to keep a promise he made to the Lord Jesus: “Lord if you get me out of this mess this time, I promise to serve you.” During these 27 years, his career has focused on working with individuals who struggle with life challenges such as substance abuse, mental health, homelessness, and poverty. Lawrence has worked at the City of Atlanta Office of The Public Defender for the past 9 years, currently assigned as a Client Advocate/Employment Specialist. Lawrence is a product of an HBCU, Prairie View A & M University with a B.A. in Social Work.

She works tirelessly to initiate numerous innovative programs to engage, educate, and empower marginalized populations. For over 25 years, Colleen has been passionate and committed to "meeting clients where they are" and providing care without judgment. It is this "heart to heart" approach that inspires healing, growth, and change in individuals' lives. Colleen has been honored by the U.S. Attorney's office for her dedicated service in doing "Street Outreach." She is also a sought-after speaker and subject expert on Criminal Justice Reform, Re-Entry-Related Issues, Homelessness, and Community Building.
