Workplaces as Engines of Mental Health and Well-Being
Legal aid and public defense professionals carry demanding caseloads and regularly confront trauma, urgency, and systemic challenges. In this session, we’ll explore the U.S. Surgeon General’s framework for workplace mental health and well-being and consider what it means for mission-driven legal organizations. Together, we’ll look at the five essentials of healthy workplaces—psychological safety, connection and community, work-life harmony, a sense of mattering, and opportunities for growth—and reflect on how these principles can help sustain advocates doing difficult but vital work. Join us for a conversation about how our workplaces can move beyond burnout prevention and become engines of resilience, purpose, and collective well-being.
Presenter: Justin Heim, Director of Learning Innovation, NLADA

What are NLADA Drop-In Discussions?
NLADA Drop-In Discussions are virtual spaces for NLADA communities – Civil Legal Aid, Client, and Public Defender – to share experiences, questions, strategies and ideas with each other. NLADA staff will attend to learn from members about the issues most important to them, and to provide information when helpful to the group. These convenings are intended for advocates in the field and participation will be limited to people in such roles. NLADA membership is encouraged but not required.
